For Grant Ekleberry, loan officer at First National Bank of Sycamore,  agricultural lending isn’t just a job. It’s a natural outgrowth of his life growing up in the community he loves.

Grant has worked as a lender at FNB of Sycamore for three years, helping his farming customers achieve their dreams because he understands their background. Having grown up around his grandparents’ dairy farm and also participating in 4-H as a child, Grant gets the unique challenges the ag community faces. “I am familiar with their struggles, and I can put myself in their shoes,” he says. “Understanding the ups and downs, that there can be good years and bad years, helps me connect with my customers and develop solutions.” 

This lifelong empathy for farmers helps Grant and the team tailor solutions to help his customers achieve their goals, expand their operations, and create new opportunities for growth. Like the rest of FNB of Sycamore, Grant values taking a holistic approach: “The customer knows their business. They know their operation inside and out. Where we step in as lenders is helping them from the balance sheet perspective, but also diving into problem solving that goes deeper than the numbers. And our decisions come from this office, not a far-off headquarters or corporation.” 

The best part of Grant’s job? Working with the very people he grew up with—the family, friends, and neighbors who make up the warm spirit and unique character of Sycamore and surrounding communities. That customer interaction is the highlight of the day.
