Fresh Faces at First National Bank of Sycamore

January 14, 2020

We’re excited to announce the most recent additions to our team here at First National Bank of Sycamore. In order for us all to get to know them better, we’ve asked each of these new employees to talk about why they like working for FNB, how their job at FNB differs from previous jobs they’ve had, and whether they’ve had any unique or memorable experiences at FNB so far. Here’s what they have to say.

Luke Miller: Compliance/Internal Audit Control Trainee

Luke enjoys the sense of community he feels at FNB—both with his coworkers and with the customers he serves. He also feels that, unlike other jobs, FNB has allowed him “to grow and learn with any opportunity that comes.” He says, “whether a fellow coworker lets me know the process of something I had not known previously, or be part of [a] future training opportunity, there is a future [for] personal and professional growth here at FNB.”

One of his favorite experiences is getting to see repeat customers who always make his day and also help him feel as though he’s part of the FNB family—even though he has only worked for the bank for a short time.

Danie Ray: Customer Service Representative

What Danie likes most about working at FNB is the closeness of the employees. “It feels as if we are one big family,” she says. “We are here to support each other and help one another when needed, whether it be work related or not.”

Danie also loves that FNB does so much for the community, such as “visiting nursing homes around the area to deliver Christmas gifts to the residents,” which always puts a smile on their faces. Danie continues, “FNB also works at the fair to place bids on the local youths’ animals. We also are very supportive of our local schools by giving scholarships and helping out in any way that we can. I cannot say enough about the FNB of Sycamore. They have always been here to support my family and I whenever we need them.”

Cyndy Bertsch: Loan Processor

Like Danie, Cyndy Bertsch also says FNB feels like family. “We have our struggles, but everyone cares for each other and are willing to help one another, whether that is the loss of a loved one or celebrating the birth of a new child. Knowing that the people you work with care about each other helps me to do a better job for the customers, the bank, and anyone else I interact with.”

Most of Cyndy’s previous jobs were temporary or part-time positions, but when FNB hired her, she felt like she’d found where she was supposed to be. “I started as an IT Operator, and for 10 years I helped customers with internet banking questions, debit card issues, and other questions they may have had,” Cyndy says. “Now, as a loan processor, I am able to help the loan officers and make the customer experience for a loan as smooth as possible.”

When Cyndy first moved into the loan processor position, she felt overwhelmed by the amount of information she had to learn, but, she says, “everyone was willing to teach me or answer my questions so I could understand not just what to do but why things are done a specific way. As I become more comfortable with my new job responsibilities, I am looking forward to learning more about loans as new opportunities are presented.”

Jill Rowland: Credit Analyst

Jill Rowland also speaks about how much she loves “the family environment” at FNB. “Everyone really cares about one another,” she says. “I also really appreciate how we get to know each customer and treat each of them as individuals with real needs.” She says that FNB is different from many banks because they know their customers on a personal level and that “FNB also cares deeply about the employees as well as their families.”

Additionally, Jill loves how working at FNB gives her more time with her family: “Since I started here five months ago, I have been able to attend more of my children’s functions and volunteer at their schools. I can’t say how much I appreciate being able to do this, and I know my kids love it as well! FNB goes out of their way to make sure our family and community’s needs are met.” She has also enjoyed increasing her involvement in the community generally, as she “had the opportunity to work at two county fairs,” which she had never done before.

Sarah Weyand: Customer Service Representative

Sarah enjoys that at FNB “everyone works together and makes you feel welcome.” Her job with FNB is different from other jobs she’s had because here she is “on the front line welcoming and helping clients, compared to being in an office and only communicating by phone and email.” She hasn’t had too many unique experiences at FNB yet, in her short time on the job; however, she loves “how it feels like one big family here at FNB.”
